Friendship Force of the Florida Suncoast
Harrisburg, PA Incoming Exchange
The Harrisburg, Pennsylvania Friendship Force Club will be visiting us March 13 until March 20. We have put together a wonderful program for them that will be easy for them and for our club. On the 14th we will begin their visit with our welcoming party that will be held at the Jungle Prada Tavern in St. Petersburg on Park St. There will be a short warm up game to help us get to know each other. After lunch, our members and ambassadors will be escorted to Sacred Lands and Eric Anderson will tell us about the early Indians of Florida. This is also where Narvaez and his crew landed in 1528 and where the first Catholic Mass was held in Florida. After your tour, you are welcome to call it a day or you might want to visit the beaches or Tyrone Mall nearby or anyplace that you like.

The second day we will take our ambassadors to Tarpon Springs. The Leepa-Rattner Art Museum will be our first stop. From there we will carpool to Tarpon Springs where we will receive a guided tour. After the tour, everyone is on his or her own for lunch at one of the recommended restaurants. The rest of the afternoon our ambassadors will be free to do as they please in Tarpon with the help of their home host or day host. This night we will host our ambassadors at small dinner parties,
The third day we will visit Heritage Park with our ambassadors. After the tour some might like to visit the nearby botanical gardens and others might like to visit John’s pass in Madeira Beach. There are so many activities at John’s Pass, each ambassador might enjoy shopping, boating, swimming, or dining at one of the restaurants like the locals.
The fourth day, St. Patrick’s Day, we will take our ambassadors to the Dali Museum. After a tour of the museum, our members might like to show our ambassadors down town St. Petersburg and all that it has to offer.
The fifth day is a free day and the ambassadors will be given many suggestions for that day. Laurie Bunn and Ed Evan are trying to connect wishes with day hosts so that all are happy. We will really need volunteers to help make wishes come true.
Our last day is our farewell party. The ambassadors might just like a morning to pack and to catch their breath. An exciting international pot luck farewell party is planned for the afternoon of March 19. Catherine Conover and her team will put this together. There will be music, games planned by Joe Myers, and a creative silly fashion show created by Mair Murphy. It will take place at 2291 World Parkway West, Clearwater.
We know that most of you are willing to support this exchange and to participate in it. We need more home hosts, day hosts, and dinner hosts. We need you to show up for the welcome and the farewell party so our visiting ambassadors know that we are happy that they are visiting our area. Let Rita Bechetti, [email protected] and/or Jane Lee, [email protected] know that you are willing to help and let them know what you can do. We need models for the fashion show at the farewell party, contact Mair Murphy [email protected] and offer your talent.
